How nitrous oxide is provided to patients
Mixed with oxygen, this inorganic gas is inhaled via a mask. It takes effect quickly and can cause a feeling of euphoria and slow down your reaction. It won’t, however, knock you right out. Your Katy dentist and team will be able to communicate with you and ensure your comfort. As we wrap up, you will find that the effects of nitrous oxide wear off rather quickly. You’ll be able to drive home – and get back to your regularly scheduled programming!
Possible side effects of nitrous oxide sedation
In rare cases, patients who are undergoing nitrous oxide for the first time may experience allergic reactions. These adverse reactions are most common in children.
- Hives
- Fevers
- Chills
- Difficulty breathing or wheezing.
Before we can administer laughing gas…
At FM Dentistry & Orthodontics, we require consent before we can provide sedation along with treatment. We’ll let you know precisely why we provide this form of sedation and advise if there are any risks. If you or your child feel nauseous after receiving it, we will give a glass of water or other liquids for hydration. If any vomiting occurs more than twice within the first hour of treatment, please contact our office. And should you have any questions before treatment, reach out! We’d be happy to answer them.
