Signs you may need root canal therapy
Symptoms can vary from one person to the next. But you can expect to experience one or more of the following:
- Severe sensitivity to hot and cold foods/beverages
- Abscess (looks like a pimple) on the gums by the affected tooth
- Dark spot on the tooth
- Tenderness and swelling of the gums
- Pain that occurs while applying pressure.
Some patients don’t experience any symptoms. But if you do or suspect that you’re experiencing severe decay, give us a call. We’ll get you in for an appointment as soon as possible. And beforehand, we can offer tips over the phone on how to manage your oral pain.
It’s best to act fast if you’re experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above. The longer you wait, the more likely you’ll end up requiring more expensive care in the future. It’s one of those situations where you can’t just cross your fingers and hope for the best!
A root canal isn’t always the best course of action. In some cases, a failing restoration can be the culprit of similar symptoms. If so, all that may be required is a new filling or another minimally-invasive service.
